Burling Second-Floor Classroom

The Burling second-floor classroom may be used for single classes, for semester-long courses, or for larger meetings. The classroom is set up like many of the Humanities and Social Studies Center classrooms with a teaching table connection panel located on the instructor’s podium/desk. It currently includes 12 mobile tables seating 2 people each, 2 large monitors equipped with Airtame screen-sharing software, a Blu-ray DVD player, a document camera, and, upon request, a multi-region DVD player available for checkout at the Burling Circulation Desk.

For reservations for single sessions (classes and meetings), send a request to classroom reservations or contact Sharon Clayton, administrative assistant to the librarian (641-269-3351). Please include the time and date, course number, and instructor name in your request.

To schedule the classroom for semester-long courses, contact the registrar. The fall semester, Tuesday–Thursday 8–9:50 a.m. time block is not available for semester-long courses, as it is reserved for research literacy instruction for Tutorial.

The classroom is open for group study when not reserved for meetings or classes, so faculty are encouraged to arrive early to set up and familiarize themselves with the equipment prior to the event.

Faculty are responsible for managing logistics for their class, including setup/cleanup/audiovisual/troubleshooting. The libraries are not staffed to support faculty’s classes.

Burling Computing Lab/Classroom

The Burling Computing Lab may be used for single classes or scheduled for semester-long courses. The lab includes 18 Mac workstations, an instructor’s station, and projection. The workstations are on the perimeter of the room, and tables for discussion are in the center of the room.

For reservations for single sessions, send a request to computing room reservations or contact Sharon Clayton, administrative assistant to the librarian (641-269-3351). Please include the time and date, course number, and instructor name in your request.

Burling Conference Room

The Burling Library Conference Room (lower level) may be used for single classes or scheduled for semester-long courses. The conference room accommodates up to 10 people comfortably. There is a VHS, multi-region DVD, and Blu-ray player attached to a 64-inch mobile monitor. There is also a networked computer (with wireless mouse and keyboard in locked cabinet), and a HDMI connection (with USBC adaptor).

To schedule the conference room for semester-long courses, contact the registrar. The Wednesday 10–11:30 a.m. slot is reserved for library meetings year-round.

Faculty may utilize conference room AV and are encouraged to arrive early and familiarize themselves with the equipment prior to their class.
